The parenting course, "Redirecting
Children's Behavior™" is strongly influenced
by the work of Rudolf Dreikurs, MD., author of the highly acclaimed book "Children: The Challenge".
The course was developed by Kathryn Kvols author of the book "Redirecting Children's Behavior" and founder of the International Network for Children and Families ( INCAF.) All "Redirecting Children's Behavior" instructors are certified by INCAF.
In our fast-paced society, adults and children spend much of their time in separate environments. We all want to make the most of the time we have together, however, it can become difficult for us to give of ourselves or get what we want from our relationships.
You can have the kind of relationship with your children you have dreamed of, and you can help them develop skills to become loving, motivated and successful adults.
Course Objectives:
More confident, happier parents
More responsible children
More cooperative children
Children with greater self-esteem
Children with greater self-control
Children who promote agreement instead of fighting
Children who feel loved and understood
Children who seek appropriate behavior goals
A family that communicates and expresses feelings in a healthy, productive manner
Encouraged families who support each other More >>

"Peace
Begins
At Home"
"Everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments and greater riches and so on, so that children have very little time for parents. Parents have very little time for each other, and in the home begins the disruption of the peace of the world." Mother Theresa of Calcutta
Punishment:
Do you want your child to cooperate with you because he/she is afraid of you or because he/she loves and respects you? Ask yourself, "Am I motivating my child through love or hate?" More >>
Encouragement vs. Praise "Give children lots of praise." This sounds like good parenting advice, but there is a difference between appropriate praise (encouragement) and inappropriate praise. More >>
"Self-esteem is the overall judgment of self...a sense of self-respect and self-worth...this is the core of the child's personality and determines the use he makes of his life." Alfred Adler
Sometimes we are in such a hurry to get a situation under control that we fail to consider the long term lesson we want the child to learn. We need to parent more with the end in mind...
Long Term Objectives:
To repair his/her mistakes rather than excuse, cover up, lie or blame
To make and keep commitments, developing the attitude, "You can count on me."
To communicate feelings effectively - anger, sadness, hurt, love, excitement, etc.
To ask for what he/she wants versus whining, manipulating, threatening, or having temper tantrums.
"All the love we come to know in life begins with the love we knew as children." Unknown
All misbehavior is your child
trying to Communicate
something to you.
Are mistakes considered learning opportunities in your home? What are you teaching your children about learning from their mistakes? More >>
